Kaspersky Lab announces the beta versions for the following products:

1. Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows Workstations 6.0 beta 1

2. Kaspersky Anti-Virus for Windows File Servers 6.0 beta 1

3. Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 beta 1

We hope that you will find the time to try the beta version of these products, which form the basis of Kaspersky Lab¡¯s flagship product range. We would welcome any feedback you can provide about the products, so that any necessary changes can be made as early as possible.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations is a new comprehensive anti-virus protection product incorporating latest Kaspersky Lab's technologies. This product is designed for the use on workstations in the computer networks running Windows operating system. For remote administration of the product Kaspersky Administration kit system can be used.This product incorporates all functionality included into the Kaspersky Lab's

range of personal products 6.0 for Windows. Additionally, this product offers the following new capabilities:

1. Remote administration support using Kaspersky Administration Kit, namely:

Remote installation with the ability to select the product's components and local tasks to be installed and to configure the product's configuration file
Remote installation of key files
The ability to create a policy that would include settings for all product's components
Sending the extended set of events to the administration server
The ability to configure the content of the Support page of the local user interface
Network quarantine and backup storage support
Default policy settings minimize the necessity for the user intervention; the option to completely disable the user interface is available

2. File Anti-Virus

"Scan mode" setting
Schedule for pausing the scan and file anti-virus tasks on events "application start up/exit"
Resolving the username and the name of the computer from which the access to infected files is attempted

3. On-Demand Scan Tasks

"Network iSwift" – a technology for eliminating the need for rescans throughout the entire network – has been added
The ability to configure operation in the "Scan for Active Infections" using the "Disinfect active infections" setting
All lists have been revised to include the ability to edit components (scan task objects, exclusion masks, PDM paths, etc.)
The settings for controlling the system load depending on external tasks running has been added to all scan tasks
Quarantine storage scan object has been added
The start-up objects scan scope has been extended for 64-bit versions of Windows OS

4. Anti-Hacker

The list of batch rules has been revised to include rules for known malware.

5. Anti-Spy

Heuristic capability has been added to he Anti-banner component for identifying banners not included into the pre-installed lists

6. Proactive protection

Detection of a number of keyloggers types has been added
Windows Task Manager protection against malicious dll (that are often used by rootkit software) has been added

7. Updating

The ability to perform updates from the Administration Server has been added
An update copying (updating from shared folder) task has been added for all types of updates (updates of the database, application modules, etc.)

8. General properties

The ability to use the system environment variables when specifying objects to be scanned, scan exclusions, Anti-Hacker rules and proactive protection module has been added
Protection against programs attempting to go around the protection by automatic pressing the "Allow" button in the alert boxes has been added
The ability to register any types of events in the Windows events log has been added (including the ability to select the type of log - system or user log)
Utility for product protection against failures has been revamped: all processes of the product "monitor" each other and automatically restart closed processes
The product's command line interface has been revised
Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows File Servers is a new comprehensive anti-virus protection product incorporating latest Kaspersky Lab's technologies. This product is designed for the use on file servers in the computer networks running Windows operating system. For remote administration of the product Kaspersky Administration kit system can be used. This product is designed to ensure maximum reliability and speed of data processing in the file server environment. For this reason it includes a file anti-virus, on-demand scan tasks, updating modules and shared modules for local updating. The functionality of these modules is extended compared with Kaspersky Lab's 6.0 range of personal products 6.0 for Windows due to the ability to specify the number of running processes performing the anti-virus scan and the ability to select the computer processors used by the product's processes. Additionally, the reliability of the product's operation has been considerably enhanced through the introduction of the product restart utility in case of a failure. Provided below is the general list of major changes compared to the Kaspersky Lab's range of personal products 6.0 for Windows:

1. Remote administration support using Kaspersky Administration Kit, namely:

¡Ü Remote installation with the ability to select the product's components and local tasks to be installed and to configure the product's configuration file

¡Ü Remote installation of key files

¡Ü The ability to create a policy that would include settings for all product's components

¡Ü Sending the extended set of events to the administration server

¡Ü The ability to configure the content of the Support page of the local user interface

¡Ü Network quarantine and backup storage support

¡Ü Default policy settings minimize the necessity for the user intervention; the option to completely disable the user interface is available

2. File Anti-Virus

¡Ü "Scan mode" setting

¡Ü Schedule for pausing the scan and file anti-virus tasks on events "application start up/exit"

¡Ü Restricted access to infected computers (resolving the username and the name of the computer from which the access to infected files is attempted)

¡Ü Blocking the "connection" for the particular user (blocking attempts to open files in the shared folders)

¡Ü Sending Net Send notifications to the user with the indication of the notification line template

¡Ü Indication of the number of running processes

¡Ü The ability to select processors used by the product's processes

3. On-Demand Scan Tasks

Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 expands on the program¡¯s features and eliminates bugs discovered in earlier versions.Version 6 is a comprehensive update of Kaspersky Administration Kit. It can be used as the first installation of the program or to update all previously released versions of Kaspersky Administration Kit.

The following features have been added to BETA 1 of Kaspersky Administration Kit 6.0 since version 5.0.1152:

¡Ü Kaspersky Administration Kit includes plug-ins for Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows Workstations and Kaspersky Anti-Virus 6.0 for Windows File Servers.

¡Ü Support for update agents.

¡ÜSupport IP multicasts remote installation and updates. This feature considerably reduces the peak traffic on a corporate network.

¡Ü You can create global tasks for searching history and selecting computers.

¡Ü MySQL version 5.0.22 (UTF8 default charset) is supported as an alternative database used by the Administration Server.

¡Ü The application includes an administration plug-in for KAV for Novell 5.6.

¡Ü You can deploy remote installer packages to the entire Administration Server hierarchy.

¡Ü You can create installation and update tasks for the entire Administration Server hierarchy.

¡Ü Reports now display the user profile under which an infection occurred.

¡Ü Files in backup on clients can be administered centrally.

¡Ü A column has been added to the administration console that shows whether the network agent and anti-virus are installed on a computer.

¡Ü Search using many event types.

¡Ü You can create operations for a select set of computers in the console.

¡Ü Policies for the Administration Server.

¡Ü You can now centrally sort information about anti-virus products not controlled by Kaspersky Administration Kit that installed on clients beforehand.

¡Ü You can uninstall third-party anti-virus programs using Kaspersky Network Agent.

¡Ü New special policy type for mobile users. This policy is automatically activated on the client if there is no connection with the Administration Server.

¡Ü Notifications are now supported for SMTP servers with authentication.

¡Ü You can create remote installer packages without accessing the shared folder on the Administration Server.

¡Ü Automatic update task for slave servers starts automatically after retrieving updates from master server.

¡Ü Password protection has been added for uninstalling the administration agent.

¡Ü Support has been added for several column sets in Microsoft Management Console and for switching between the sets.

¡Ü Administrators can start scans of the corporate network on demand.

¡Ü When you edit Administration Server settings, you do not need to restart the server.

¡Ü Support has been added for updating installations of the network agent installed using MSI or Active Directory with Administration Server tools.

¡Ü You can now select computers by operating system version.

¡Ü You can disable all network scans with the administration console.

¡Ü The Quick Start Wizard now can introduce groups and add computers to groups.

¡Ü A progress bar has been added for group tasks. When you view group task history, you see the current percentage complete of the task on each computer.

¡Ü The text message sending feature has been expanded.

¡Ü By default all settings in the policy modify settings on clients the first time they are edited.

¡Ü A conflict resolution system for computer names has been added using MAC addresses.

¡Ü A column has been added to the administration console that shows whether the network agent and anti-virus are installed on a computer.

¡Ü When you uninstall the Administration Server, you have the option of making a backup.

¡Ü Remote Installation packages can be created directly of Kaspersky Lab products' distributives. You don't need to extract the distributive into a temporary folder.
