Message from the CTO

Non-verbal communication

In the late 60s and early 70s, Albert Mehrabian was researching how we perceive information presented to us verbally. Incredibly enough, non-verbal cues, including body language, are the most effective way to get your message across.

Do you want to land the lead role on a new project, present some exciting new data to an important group of clients, or maybe negotiate the terms of a new employment contract? With 55% of perception being based on physiological presentation, simply showing conviction and passion will propel you over half of the way there!

RAD Studio XE2: Our Current Plans

The next version of RAD Studio is finally giving Delphi developers something to get excited about. 64bit support, LiveBindings and cross-browser support are all great reasons to seriously consider the upgrade.

Naturally, Embarcadero¡¯s promotion of their next release is giving rise to questions for Julian and the DevExpress VCL team.

Take a look at Julian¡¯s article and find out how the current game plan will affect you if you are a DevExpress VCL customer.

An Introduction to Developing with DXperience ASP.NET

DevExpress have invited trainer and DevExpress consultant, Oliver Sturm, to deliver a first-class training course for those looking for an introductory overview of developing with DXperience ASP.NET controls at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, NV.

The course is designed to take developers who are new to DevExpress ASP.NET controls through a step-by-step approach to using and implementing each of the main components, while at the same time creating a sample ASP.NET application.

Space has become limited so we encourage you to contact us if you and your team members are interested in participating.

Enhancing UI Features of the WPF Pivot Grid

The nature of a pivot grid¡¯s job means that making small changes to the way that the UI displays data can have a huge impact on how that data can be visualized.

The recent release of DXperience v2011 vol 1.7 has included some small but significant modifications and enhancements to the WPF Pivot Grid.

Check out Woody¡¯s articles below and let the team know if these improvements are going to help you.

Make the Most of DevExpress

Let Your Users Talk to Your Website!

Speech recognition software is no longer restricted to James Bond-esque secret lairs. Now it is commonplace to speak to a machine before your book your train ticket or ask a customer service agent for details about your phone bill, it is even starting to make its way to e-commerce websites.

Mehul¡¯s post shows how he coupled Google Chrome and the DevExpress ASP.NET ComboBox to show how your users might be able to interact with your website by speaking to it!

Take a look at this article, and if you come up with your own implementation of this, send us the details and we¡¯ll send you some DevExpress goodies.

Introducing PLINQ Data Support to the WPF Grid Control

The introduction of support for Parallel LINQ data sources to the WPF Grid Control signals an improvement in data-intensive operations for your WPF applications.

By using two new non-visual controls to make full use of all available cores on the system, the WPF Data Grid sees staggering performance improvements when tested with a data set of 10,000,000 records.

Take a look at Emil¡¯s blog for further information on how to get started with PlinqInstantFeedbackDataSource and PLinqServerModeSource.

Creating Killer CodeRush Plug-Ins in Just One Hour

The CodeRush Feature Workshop is a weekly webinar that gives you the chance to determine the content of the session and help to create brand new plug-ins for the CodeRush community.

Productivity Powerhouses, Rory and Mark, have brought to life some fantastic ideas over the past few sessions. The most recent selection included a plug-in that supports multi-select in Visual Studio. They added support for cut, copy and paste, in a plug-in that could later become an entry point for advanced refactorings and other code manipulations.

As Mark says, strap into your five-point restraint system, kids. This one just might blow your mind!

Using the Rich Edit Control Table of Contents Feature

Tables of Contents are useful for users on so many levels: they help your readers quickly understand the content of your document; quickly navigate your document; and more effectively use your document and the contents within it.

As of the latest release, Rich Edit controls across all of our supported platforms now allow you to automatically add, update, and manage a table of contents. Not only that, but you can also import and manage a Microsoft Word document that contains a Table of Contents, as well as generate Tables of Figures and Equations. Check out Rachel¡¯s in depth article for more information.

The Rich Edit controls are incredibly useful. If you are not using them already, you really should consider doing so.

Creating Customer Success Stories with XAF, WPF and ASP.NET Controls

For our technical evangelists and development teams the best part of developing custom UI controls is finding out how developers are implementing them in their real-world applications.

Demo software and sample applications only take us so far, but two of our most recent developer success stories show just how creative developers are when they have great tools at their disposal.

Take a tour of an enterprise-level ¡°Paid Access Control¡± system using XAF and WPF controls, and be wowed by the speed of an ASP.NET website designed for agricultural and taxonomic scientists.

We¡¯d love to showcase your application. If you have a project that you have built using DevExpress controls, contact us and tell us all about it.
