INTERSOFT AND MICROSOFT: ON THE RIGHT ROAD
Bram Renaldy, Vice President of Marketing

Microsoft's announcement that Windows 8's development platform will be based on HTML 5 and Javascript has some developers concerned that their substantial investment in other Microsoft technologies may all be for naught. However, the expected announcement of Jupiter, the new user interface library for Windows, is likely to allay many of those fears. Sarah Perez of TechCrunch provides a detailed breakdown of what is currently known about Jupiter and believes that Microsoft won't hang developers out to dry. Among other features, it leverages the AppX format, which is universal and can used to deploy native Win32 apps, framework-based apps (Silverlight, WPF), web apps, and games.

As a Microsoft partner, Intersoft believes we are the right track. Continuing to follow the ClientUI roadmap with us will provide developers with new tools and features that will still be viable in the coming years. While it's difficult to predict the future, the early signs are that ASP.NET and Silverlight development will be relevant and necessary for quite some time.

We're extremely excited about the upcoming ClientUI release and have incorporated twelve totally new controls, many enhancements, and even providing the previously-impossible-to-have rich text document viewer. Read the roadmap article below for more details. Intersoft appreciates the investment developers make in their tools and looks forward to supporting your needs as we traverse new technologies.

Last but not least, subscription holders can download their copy free of charge. For everyone else, we provide a link to a fully working free trial for 30 days up on request which you can request here. And, if you have any feedback, please feel free to drop me a message.

CLIENTUI 2011 R2 ROADMAP UNLEASHED

Great news! The upcoming October ClientUI release will offer new products across all .NET development platforms with dozens of Silverlight and WPF controls. A summary of our roadmap is detailed below, but you can read the full article here.

First off, three completely new data controls will join the ClientUI data lineup in the next release – featuring the very popular built-in QueryDescriptor support. These controls are UXDataComboBox, UXDataSearchBox and UXDataLookupBox. All three include the powerful filter-as-you-type capability that automatically retrieves filtered data from server.

Not to be left behind, UXDataLookupBox is a new kind of data control that combines the type-ahead auto complete behavior with advanced lookup functionality. Dozens of lookup windows are now things of the past! Here's a snapshot of this new control that will delight end users.

New in WebUI Studio 2011 R2: UXDataLookupBox

UXDataLookupBox sports a modern callout style interface to host the lookup content and results, which is automatically positioned in center against the lookup dropdown. Of course, every element of the UXDataLookupBox is fully customizable and template-able.

We're also going above and beyond to provide ClientUI with a full-featured, WYSIWYG report viewer. ClientUI's next generation report viewer will be the first in the industry that supports high-fidelity report rendering. The SqlReportViewer will also include many powerful features not available in other similar products such as high-performance report streaming, on-demand report loading, journal-aware navigation, data drilling support, and an intuitive report browser.

Best of all, the SqlReportViewer is engineered with MVVM-ready architecture, enabling you to create custom views for the report parameters and bind them to your ViewModel for user interaction handling.

As if that weren't enough the next ClientUI will ship a full-featured flow document framework which supports both Silverlight and WPF with a single codebase. In addition, we will also introduce three new document viewers dedicated to the flow document. The list of new controls doesn't stop here. We also have exciting plans for ASP.NET lineup such as major update to WebGrid Enterprise. Stay tuned to find out more.

COMMUNITY CORNER: MULTISELECTION AND MORE.

Community member Alfred La Garde asks "Is there a way to set the initial value for more than one row of a mult-select WebCombo in server code?" Yes, Alfred there is. This thread describes how to set multiple selections in WebCombo on the first load.

EXPORTING CLIENT BINDING.

As we know, exporting requires a server side operation, which makes it impossible to export in ClientBinding. However, there is a trick: In order to export from a service-based data source or client-side data source, modify theBindingOperationMode to "ServerBinding" temporarily. Find out how here.

CAN YOU USE UXCALLOUT INSIDE THE UXSTACK MENU?

Community member Proxor is trying to customize menu using UXDesktopDock, UXDesktopDockButton and UXCallOut, but was having difficulty making it work properly. UXCallOut and UXStackMenu have similar processes, so the fix is using the right control. Read the solution here.

TIPS AND TRICK: COLOURIZE WITH WEBCOMBO.

Have you been struggling with styling data rows and binding multiple columns in WebCombo? Riendy Setiadi posted a great solution to a formatting question posted by another Community member. This server-side solution allows you to change row colors and font, among other styles. Find the answer here.
