The I in SOLID - The Interface Segregation Principle

'Does my interface look big in this?'

The Interface Segregation Principle can be expressed as: classes that implement interfaces should not be forced to implement methods they do not use. In other words: use small interfaces, not fat ones.

Do your interfaces need a crash diet?

Official DevExpress 2011 Roadmap Released

DevExpress CTO, Julian Bucknall, has completed the 2011 DevExpress Development Roadmap and we are proud to share our plans with you.

2011 brings continued innovation from Microsoft, and as a Gold Partner we commit to embracing and extending these new technologies in order to bring you the range of products and functionality that you require of us.

As our evangelist team has expanded, so has our commitment to developing and enhancing our product line. This year¡¯s roadmap sees our reporting and charting controls gain greater precedence, and our analytics components combined into a brand new DXperience solution.

Take a look at our plans for 2011 and please take some time to leave your feedback and thoughts on Julian¡¯s blog post.

DevExpress make the Great Indian Developers' Summit Awards shortlist

In April of this year, DevExpress will travel to India for our first major event in the region. We are thrilled to be able to participate in the Great Indian Developer Summit in Bangalore, India.

DevExpress has been fortunate enough to have seven products shortlisted in six of the Great Indian Developer Summit Awards nomination categories.

We are very happy to have been recognized by the overseeing committee and we hope that our Indian user base will consider supporting us by placing their votes for the awards.

XAF Blog Series: Mastering Domain Components

DXperience 10.2 saw the release of the Domain Components technology, stalled as a result of issues involving XPO. However, this has not meant that the technology has been left idle.

Gary and the team have devised a series of blogs geared at introducing new Domain Components users to the technology, and allowing advanced users to master all of its intricacies.

The first post in this series deals with displaying two or more list objects where each object has a different default property. Simple? So you might think, but read on!

Remember to leave your feedback for Gary and the XAF team in the comments. They¡¯re keen to know what additional Domain Components topics you think require exposure and explanation.

* XAF Domain Components: How to Implement a Default Property for a Business Entity Derived from Multiple Components

Coupling XPO with OData and OAuth

Another in depth blog series. This time Azret is detailing how to make use of OData and OAuth. This blog series makes use of XPO as the ORM solution and the DevExpress ASP.NET MVC extensions for the web user interface.

This is a really meaty series, and Azret¡¯s introductory post provides an excellent overview of what you can expect. We hope this is something that you¡¯ll be able to get your teeth into.

Take a look at Azret¡¯s articles and leave your comments on The Hobbit¡¯s Bank of The Shire. We¡¯re sure Frodo will be glad you did!

* OData and OAuth: FormsAuthenticationTicket and MixedAuthentication
* OData and OAuth: Federated Logins with Twitter, Google and Facebook
* OData and OAuth: Managing Identities

Using the ASP.NET Pivot Grid with an OLAP Cube

During 2011, the all-new DXperience Analytics package will become available for purchase. This selection of controls is ideal for developing solutions for end users in data-centric markets.

In our experience, the pivot controls have been hugely important to the financial vertical, and paired with OLAP cubes present a sophisticated mechanism for handling huge amounts of data.

For those of you who are less familiar with the benefits of a pivot grid and OLAP cube combination, Woody is on hand to offer more enlightening demonstrations of our ASP.NET Pivot Grid in action.

* ASP.NET Pivot Grid - OLAP Multiple Totals
