Survey Results: Top 10 reasons people use MathType

MathType - Equation Editor product shotWe asked our customers and publishers what they like about MathType. Here are their most frequent answers:

10. MathType and Equation Editor are overwhelmingly preferred by researchers and textbook authors:  According to scientific and technical publishers, over 85% of submitted manuscripts containing mathematical notation are Microsoft Word documents containing MathType or Equation Editor equations. So I know I am in good company. (Equation Editor is our junior version of MathType included in MS Office and other applications.)

9. It is easy to number equations: MathType lets me number equations in Word. It even works with Office 2007's equations!

8. Works with hundreds of applications: Although most people use MathType with Word and PowerPoint, I can also use it with hundreds of other applications. To name just a few: Excel, InDesign, QuarkXPress, Moodle, Mathematica, Maple...

7. Creates equations for websites, blogs, wikis, and email: Since MathType can save equations in multiple formats such as GIF, TeX/LaTeX, and MathML, I can include equations in virtually any web application.

6. Lets me use equations from web pages in my own work:  More and more websites, such as Wikipedia, PlanetMath.org and PhysicsForums.com, contain equations that can be pasted directly into MathType, saving me time and minimizing mistakes.

5. Lets me define equations by typing TeX/LaTeX: Since I already know TeX/LaTeX, I can type it straight into MathType and use it in PowerPoint and Keynote presentations, or any other application that MathType works with.

4. Lets me create an equation library in its toolbar: Math tends to be repetitive. MathType can save me valuable time by letting me save frequently used symbols, templates and expressions in its toolbar, to be inserted anytime with just a click or keystroke.

3. Lets me get my students' attention with color: Color can be an important attention-getter and as a teacher I know that's half the battle!

2. Browses all the equations in a document or presentation: I just finished a twenty-page paper with hundreds of equations and I need to check my math. I use MathType's browse feature in Microsoft Word or PowerPoint to visit all the equations.

1. Makes me look smart! Because MathType lets me work faster and more efficiently, using it shows I care about my time and work.
