Success Note

¡°Our servers handle tens of millions of requests per day. Our customers require up to the second market data. We need a robust application server that can handle that load without getting in the way. Resin gave us that before anyone else got close, and continues to lead the way with superior performance, frequent updates, and superb support.¡±

April Updates

Resin 4.0 to be released at JavaOne!

Resin 4.0 marks a major milestone in the development of Resin by introducing features that make web applications easy to deploy on cloud computing platforms for maximum scalability. More about Resin Cloud features. Resin 4.0 also introduces Java Contexts and Dependency Injection (CanDI), a powerful new standards-based approach to dependency injection. The performance of Quercus, our already fast implementation of PHP in Java, will be dramatically improved in Resin 4.0. Read Quercus White Paper.

Caucho to Present Cloud Computing at Jazoon Conference in June

We're pleased to announce that Emil Ong, Caucho's Chief Evangelist, will present a talk on Resin 4.0's cloud computing features at this year's Jazoon in Zurich, one of Europe's top Java conferences. Emil's talk will show both hands-on demonstrations of Resin running in the cloud as well as discuss how Resin supports advanced features such as dynamic server startup, remote application deployment, distributed object caching, and distributed sessions. Read more on Jazoon.

Caucho at TheServerSide Java Symposium

This year marks the first time that Caucho attended the TSSJS conference and we were delighted to see that attending delegates were anxious to stay ahead of the technological trends. Caucho CEO and Co-Founder, Steve Montal, presented a short speech on the first day of the conference, garnering Caucho quite a bit of positive attention throughout the event. Quercus and the Resin 4.0 cloud features were hot topics at the Caucho booth with many attendees eager to start using both technologies. Java CanDI received much popular support and calls for its immediate inclusion in upcoming Java standards. Thanks to everyone at TSSJS who came by our booth!

New Features

Resin 4.0 Rewrite/Dispatch with Java CanDI (JSR-299)

The new syntax of JSR-299 allowed us to redesign Resin¡¯s popular rewrite and dispatch capabilities for even greater flexibility. Many sites upgrading from Apache¡¯s mod_rewrite module now have an even easier and more powerful mechanism to modify, filter, and dispatch incoming HTTP requests. Read more on Resin 4.0 Rewrite/Dispatch.

Resin supports Amazon EC2

Resin 3.1 can already be deployed on Amazon EC2 and it will be further enhanced for Resin 4.0. To get started, we put together a tutorial on how to create an AMI with Resin and install WordPress on Quercus with MySQL. The approach shown in the tutorial can also be expanded to other Java or PHP applications. Keep watching the Caucho blog for upcoming posts on running Resin 4.0's cloud features in EC2 and other cloud environments. Resin with Amazon EC2 tutorial.

Upcoming Events

JavaOne Conference

Held in San Francisco from June 2-5, Caucho will have a booth at JavaOne. Most of our staff will be in attendance including Chief Architect Scott Ferguson. Feel free to email us to set up a meeting with our developers or sales team during JavaOne to discuss your deployment. We look forward to meeting you during the conference. More about JavaOne.

JavaOne Party - Wednesday June 3rd

What¡¯s a better way to wind down after a long day at the Conference? We invite you to join us at Chevy¡¯s Fresh Mex for an evening of finger foods, drinks and chatter. We would love to see you there and look forward to sharing ideas with you. Room is limited so please RSVP if you plan to chat it up with us. All Java buddies and colleagues are welcome and encouraged to attend. Save my space – RSVP now.

Tip of the Month

Resin Can Easily Hook-up With Your Existing Nginx Front-end Setup.

Many sites that run mixed Java/non-Java deployments often choose to have a third party HTTP server in front of their application servers. Nginx is now becoming even more popular for this purpose than the legacy Apache HTTPD. Find out how to configure Nginx to dispatch requests to Resin in this month's tip. Read more on using Resin with Nginx.
