Success Note

¡°We took advantage of Resin's many features including simple management tools, a huge number of small but rich features like GZip-Filter, URL aliasing and rewriting, multithreaded JSP Precompilation and many more. Beside its advantages during development, features like the web-app versioning ensure a smooth deployment¡±

February Updates

Introducing Quercus Personal

In response to feedback and requests of Resin Pro users, we developed Quercus Personal to run both existing and new PHP applications with Java business logic. Quercus Personal includes incredibly fast PHP-to-Java compilation mode and Resin Open Source Application Server. The unique PHP-Java architecture offers security, reliability and manageability that have never been seen before in PHP applications. For a fraction of the cost of an enterprise level license, students, hobbyists and small site operators can take advantage of Quercus Personal¡¯s high performance features and expanded application server capabilities. More about Quercus Personal.

Resin Developer Training Courses

In response to requests from customers, we are excited to announce on and off-site developer and admin training courses. The developer course will feature both standards-based Java EE 6 material as well as information on how to exploit Resin-specific features for advanced applications. Contact us to customize a training session or setup a time for your developers. Course suggestions are welcome at anytime. More about Developer course.

February training course big success!

This time we included an additional topic about embedding Resin into specific applications, which helped students relate to their own real-world setups. Student feedback included, ¡°Very informative and excellent lab exercises. Found the material to be very practical and immediately applicable to administering Resin.¡±

New Features

Reliable Deployment Using .Git

The new Resin 4.0 architecture includes robust application deployment based on the Git source code repository. Some key features offered by this architecture are: incremental updates, transactional updates, reliable replication, manageability and solid performance. The structure of the Git repository removes concerns about inconsistent changes and simplifies the transactional requirements. More about .git repository.

Java CanDI

Based on the latest draft of JSR-299, Resin¡¯s Java Contexts and Dependency Injection (Java CanDI) is the first and most complete implementation of the framework formerly known as WebBeans. Now that it has ¡°top billing¡± in the JavaEE package space (e.g. two of its main packages are javax.inject and javax.context), Java CanDI will be the easiest and most developer-friendly dependency injection framework available for JavaEE. More about Java CanDI.

JCache (Distributed Caching)

Resin's distributed caching/store capabilities will be available to all developers in Resin 4.0 via the Java Cache (JSR-107) API. Resin's implementation builds on 10 years of work with distributed sessions. For the first time, developers will now have access to that powerful facility. JCache is simple to configure as it is designed for Resin and will automatically inherit the cluster and triad configuration of Resin 4.0 deployment architecture. JCache will reduce database load, improve latency, improve reliability and easily scale with hardware change. More about JCache.

Tip of the Month

Speed up your PHP applications with Quercus profiling tool

Quercus high level web profiling capability allows fast request profiling to pinpoint hotspots within PHP applications. With Quercus¡¯ PHP compiled mode, profiling is much faster and easier. Enabling the web profiler is simple:

<web-app...>
  <servlet-mapping servlet-class="com.caucho.tools.profiler.ProfilerServlet" url-pattern="/resin-profiler">
    <init>
      <profiler enabled="true"/>
    </init>
  <load-on-startup/>
</servlet-mapping>
