Earlier this month, Zend Technologies announced that it is teaming with IBM to preload Zend's web stack with every shipment of IBM i software, the integrated operating environment for IBM Power Systems, including all hardware that ships with IBM i. Although Zend Core can still be downloaded from Zend's web site, IBM's decision to distribute Zend Core will clearly enable more companies to reap the benefits of Zend PHP on their systems.
Scott Handy, Vice President, Worldwide Marketing, Strategy, and Sales Support, IBM Power Systems says, "Today's announcement is an expansion of the relationship between the two companies to further enhance PHP-based offerings for IBM i customers. Our customers asked for PHP and we brought Zend PHP to the platform. The enthusiasm for-and utilization of-Zend PHP has exceeded our expectations."

Zend co-founder Andi Gutmans appointed CEO; MySQL veteran Mark Burton appointed Zend Executive Chairman
Cameron Lester, a Zend director and general partner at Azure Capital Partners remarks: "Zend's probably the most mature, fast track open source company today. New face for Community Relations at Zend
We are very happy to announce that Eli White has joined the Zend team as our new PHP Community Relations Manager and as Editor-in-Chief for our online resource to PHP developers: Zend Developer Zone, commonly known as DevZone. He is an active member of the PHP community, an author, and has presented at numerous Web conferences, all roles that he'll continue at Zend. Eli brings with him a varied background, having been a PHP coder and technologist for larger corporations, as well as smaller startups such as Digg.com, and the government too, having worked on the Hubble Space Telescope team!
He has a number of tasks ahead of him picking up the reins of community relations and we are excited to see what he'll be bringing in the future to DevZone, the Zend podcasts, PHP user groups worldwide, and his involvement as program chair of our annual PHP conference: ZendCon.
Zend CEO Andi Gutmans has written about DevZone and Eli as well.

Zend is pleased to announce the release of Zend Studio 6.1.1!
This maintenance release is fully backward compatible with Studio 6.1.0 and contains a number of important software updates and bug fixes. Zend encourages all customers to update to the latest version for the best user experience.
The following components were updated:
- PHP (5.2.8 & 4.4.9)
- Debugger (5.2.15)
- PHPUnit (3.3.9)
- Zend Framework (1.7.2 w/Dojo 1.2 & 1.6.2 w/Dojo 1.1)

Eclipse's PHP Development Tools (PDT) 2.0 released!
PDT is an open source development tool that provides all the basic code editing capabilities developers need to get started developing PHP applications. The focus of the PDT 2.0 release is to add support for the object-oriented programming features of PHP and to improve the overall user experience of the PDT environment. "PDT is one of our most popular downloads at Eclipse," said Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation. "Since the initial release it has been downloaded over 1 million times."
