VMware Infrastructure Perl Toolkit 1.0 – Now Available

VMware announces the general availability of the VMware Infrastructure Perl Toolkit 1.0, an easy-to-use interface to create scripts that automate remote management of your virtual infrastructure. The toolkit can be used with both VirtualCenter and VMware ESX Server.

The toolkit includes several ready-to-run utility applications that automate common system administration tasks such as inventory, host and virtual machine reconfiguration, and virtual machine lifecycle operations. The utilities are written using VMware-recommended best practices and can be used as-is or customized to your environment.

VMware Unveils VMware Tools as Open Source Software

VMware has released a majority of VMware Tools as open source software as part of the Open Virtual Machine Tools project. VMware Tools is a set of guest operating system virtualization components that enhance performance and improve management of VMware virtual machines.

Open Virtual Machine Tools (open-vm-tools) is hosted at SourceForge, and the source code is available today to enable Linux vendors to integrate open-sourced VMware Tools into upcoming versions of their operating systems.

VMware Acquires Dunes Technologies

VMware announced at VMworld that it has acquired Dunes Technologies, a company that provides IT process orchestration software for virtual environments.

According to Raghu Raghuram, Vice President of products and solutions at VMware, "Dunes has developed a powerful orchestration platform that will allow us to automate the entire virtual machine lifecycle from requisition to de-commissioning, while complementing existing VMware management and automation solutions such as VMware Lab Manager and the recently announced VMware Virtual Desktop Manager."
