Telerik: Ushering You Through the New World of Cloud and Mobile

Chris Sells
Chris Sells,
VP, Developer Tools

Not so long ago, it was WinForms on the desktop and WebForms on the web. Then it was WPF on the desktop and Silverlight or MVC on the web. Now, it's the cloud and mobile devices, with HTML5 and web services. Through it all, Telerik has been there with you.

On October 16th, Telerik released its new DevCraft bundle to help you step into mobile and cloud development. On top of the list of new features is the ability to build hybrid native Icenium apps directly in Visual Studio. You can use your favorite coding tool, while still running the iOS and Android simulator and kicking off native builds. Further, we've built analytics directly into our RadControls for WPF and Silverlight, so you can automatically track the hotspots in your app. We added Azure support to our existing Windows Phone 8 Cloud Data Synchronization, as well as support for Google, Facebook and Windows Live ID in our cloud login control, plus a new cloud notification center and calendar controls. Likewise, we've built support for Everlive as well as Amazon S3 and Azure right into our ASP. NET AJAX cloud upload component, and further provide new LightBox and HTML5 Media Player components. This on top of a radial menu control for Windows 8 XAML and HTML developers, a Pinterest-like list box for Windows Phone 8, an HTML5 viewer in our Reporting product, a much faster test runner in JustCode, line-level profiling in JustTrace and DllImport support for JustMock.

We also unveiled Everlive, cloud-based Backend as a Service (BaaS) that enables developers to build and manage apps in a significantly faster and more scalable way. Staying true to our developer roots, we are offering a free Developer Edition with pretty significant cloud quotas.

But all of this is just the beginning, because Telerik understands that it's a whole new mobile and cloud world out there. And we're going to be right there with you.

Why Async Data with SignalR is Smarter than WebAPI
Why Async Data with SignalR is Smarter than WebAPIOver the last year Microsoft introduced two new frameworks through which developers can request and interact with their custom data services in ASP.NET: WebAPI and SignalR. There are tremendous features available in both frameworks, but after some experimentation, Telerik Developer Evangelist, Jeff Fritz, was ready to declare SignalR the clear winner when it comes to working with Async data.

The ASP.NET Productivity Challenge
The ASP.NET Productivity Challenge Do you stick to the default ASP.NET controls because you doubt the productivity gains of third-party controls? Telerik Developer Evangelist, Jeff Fritz, gave himself a challenge: build the same application by allocating 30 minutes to working with the default Visual Studio toolset and 30 minutes to RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX. He then compared the results based on how much functionality he implemented and the amount of code he had to write. The productivity gap may surprise you.

Are Your Web Apps Truly Cross-Browser Compatible?
Different browsers interact with your web application in different ways - JavaScript, AJAX requests, animations, custom controls may all behave differently. You'll want to make sure that your web app users see exactly what you want them to see in every browser. With Telerik Test Studio, you can record and playback your automated functional and load tests in any browser you like: Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Internet Explorer.
