Editor's Note

Hello, all, and welcome to the February, 2012 edition of the Telerik newsletter! As the newest employee at Telerik, I'm still learning all of the good stuff we're doing just in the area of developer tools.

For example, the features in JustCode that fix up my using statements (Ctrl+Shift+U) and show me a type's shape and implementation via the JustDecompile integration (F12) are now ingrained into my fingertips, but I just learned (JustLearned!) that if I want to get completions on types that aren't even listed in my using statements, I can use Ctrl+Alt+Space and keep right on coding, which is one of a ton of new features in the 2012 Q1 release. More new features in the Just family of tools include a new decompilation engine in JustDecompile to more completely handle new .NET constructs, a new "Largest Memory Retainer" view in JustTrace to find memory leakers and the ability to write your very own JustCode extensions. And the Reporting and OpenAccess ORM tools have great new features coming, too!

Supercharged Major Controls

As always, we listened to your feedback when shaping our plans. Here's what you wanted this Q: client-side binding for RadListView, export to Excel for RadTreeList, expand/collapse and drag & drop for RadOrgChart, mega dropdown and comments for RadEditor, as well as OData binding for RadScheduler. Enjoy!

Charts, Charts, Charts!

With the 2012 Q1 release you get even more ways to add meaning to the data in your ASP.NET MVC applications thanks to the new Area chart type and quite a few new features in the existing chart types. Of course, we've got a lot of other good stuff for you, so go check them all out.

Diagrams, GanttView, & XAMLflix

Get excited! The 2012 Q1 release includes beta versions of Diagrams, DataBars and GanttView and official versions of ChartView and Timeline. Our XAML Team tells all on their blog. Print Grids & Calendars with a Click

You asked, we acted! We are bringing you native RadGridView and RadScheduler printing with watermark support, which enables your users to directly pass the controls' contents to a printer. The latest pack also adds brand new RadTimePicker and RadClock controls for your time-savvy users!

New Functionality Inspired by the Marketplace

We called them Application Building Blocks and their purpose is to help your app's performance in the marketplace. Check out the Diagnostics component, enabling you to receive instant crash reports from end-users; TrialReminder and RateAppReminder. Also new are the Rating and Tooltip controls.

Ad-hoc Reports on the Fly. No Dev Required

Empower your users with the Telerik Report Designer - a standalone authoring tool for creating reports, based on Telerik Reporting. With a simple ribbon interface, this app helps non-technical users produce, edit and export ad-hoc reports on the fly. Reports are saved as XML files, so new reports are easily shared with others.

JustCode Just Got Smarter

For the Q1 release, the JustCode Test Runner has added QUnit support. The latest version also includes naming conventions to improve code readability and maintainability, experimental code completion, so you code faster, and a template for JustCode extensibility, to create the commands you need and miss most.

JustMock Incorporates More User Feedback

The new version of JustMock supports code activity workflow for deploying JustMock to TFS2010 and future mock instances can now be conditionally controlled from constructor arguments. Both suggestions came from JustMock users.

Memory Leaks Exposed

With the new version of JustTrace, the Memory Profiler features a new "Largest Memory Retainers" view, helping you quickly hone in on memory leaks. In addition you can easily monitor memory usage in Silverlight applications from the updated Live Data view.

JustDecompile - That New Engine Feel

JustDecompile is going official. The new decompilation engine has passed the tests with flying colors and is ready for release! With easy navigation and one-click decompilation, the popular decompiler is a must have for all .NET developers. Though now out of beta, JustDecompile will remain as always, 100% free.
